The Office of Reading provides storytimes, training, mentoring, and other resources to a number of childhood development organizations, including: in-home and center based daycares, Pre-K's, NEA Head Start, H.I.P.P.Y (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters), Even Start, and J.U.R.H.A (Jonesboro Urban Rural Housing Authority). These are all grant funded Family Literacy projects, providing either weekly or monthly services, depending on the grant guidelines.
In a cross-curriculum approach, teacher workshops, based upon the Arkansas Frameworks, are provided with a team of math and science teachers for Pre-K - 6th grade. Literacy materials for these workshops are provided by the Office of Reading.
H.C.S.I. (Hispanic Community Services, Inc.) provides classrooms for year-round daily tutoring of Kindergarten - 7th graders for language, reading, writing, and cultural experiences.
Additionally, the coordinator serves as liason to several schools, as well as the Friends of the Library.
