Why Libraries Matter
An Animated Story for all ages.

History
In 1940, Monette Library became a branch of the Craighead County Library and was housed in the American Legion Hall. In 1944, the hall caught on fire and most of the books were destroyed or badly burned.

The Kohn Memorial Library opened in 1946 and was named for Arthur and Belle Kohn, who ran a dry goods store in Monette. Money for the library was raised by supporters in the area including members
of the Lion's Club, Mr. Earl Sussman of St. Louis, a nephew of Mrs. Kohn. A total of $2000 was contributed by Mrs. Kohn's family. The total cost of the project was estimated to have cost at least $8000.

In 1996, the library reopened after being renovated and expanded to 2000 sq. ft.
