Genealogy
The Public Library has an extensive collection of genealogy materials to assist with family history research.
Local Newspapers and Microfilm Records:
The library offers a collection of Jonesboro newspapers on microfilm dating back to the 1890’s. Other microfilm archives include census, marriage, court, and tax records. To search for an obituary, please use the Jonesboro Sun Deaths and Obituaries Index online. You may use our microfilm reader/printer to view the obituary, or you can request a staff member to send you up to five obituaries per week.
Online Genealogy Databases:
The Public Library subscribes to several genealogy databases that can be accessed using your library card. There are also local and national websites that may be beneficial to genealogists.
Getting Started:
Note: Library staff members are not genealogists. They can help you locate the published materials but they cannot do the research for you. If you need further assistance the library staff can refer you to a local genealogist who can assist you for a fee.
