It’s official, our TeenHub Makerspace is OPEN!

So let’s talk about it: what exactly is a Makerspace, anyway?

A Makerspace is a collaborative workspace used for making, learning, exploring and sharing creative projects – from art to engineering, and more! Maybe you want to design your own stickers, or try 3-D Printing for the first time. Perhaps you want to get some hands-on experience tinkering with electronics, or need a place to paint where it's ok to get a little messy. Our TeenHub Makerspace is an educational space for teens to engage with technology and tools they may otherwise lack access to, in order to create their own projects and engage in a variety of S.T.E.A.M. fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics).

Can't wait to get started? Good News: you don't have to wait! The Makerspace is a permanent new addition to the TeenHub that teens can access outside of scheduled programming - just sign in anytime the Space is open!

Teens can utilize materials like illustration and comic-making supplies, stationary and creative writing tools, bike-repair kits, beading and jewelry making supplies, circuit-building kits, LEGOs, 3-D Printing technology, knitting, crocheting, sewing equipment and more! As teens explore their pre-existing creative interests, they may discover entirely new fields that they connect with; the Makerspace is a wonderful place to try something new, broaden your horizons, and have fun! Teens can even give suggestions for what they'd like to see in the space in future.

Want to take a tour of the Makerspace, get a chance to try out its equipment, learn to use the 3-D Printer, and more? Then keep an eye out for our periodic Makerspace Masterclass programs, held throughout the year! Join us for our next one on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024 from 4pm - 5 pm! (Teens only!)

To use the Makerspace, Teens will need an active library card or a school/photo ID to sign in – ask your parent or guardian about getting a library card today!
