Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library is excited to offer a new Children’s program this fall!  Elementary Explorers is a fun and educational program for kids in kindergarten through third grade.  It is a program that transitions kids from storytime into more hands-on learning experiences through books, arts and crafts, and STEM activities.

Each Elementary Explorers program follows a format that keeps kids moving, builds their literacy skills, allows them to express themselves creatively through crafts, and gives them the opportunity to expand their science and math knowledge through firsthand experience with tools, specimens, and experiments.  We begin each program with a movement game or activity followed by a book or story that focuses on that week’s topic.  Craft projects follow the short storytime, and the rest of the hour is spent exploring the topic with interactive stations that range from looking at microscope slides, examining and identifying parts of plants and fungus, and putting together puzzles or playing games featuring our topic. So far this semester, we’ve learned about how mushrooms grow, examined bug specimens with digital microscopes, made pasta crafts, and dissected owl pellets.

Elementary Explorers takes place from 4 to 5 p.m. every Monday in our Storytime Area.  Children in kindergarten through third grade are welcome to join us when you have the opportunity.  We hope to see you soon!
