Four Things I Want to Romanticize This Year
I’m not the first and I definitely won’t be the last to say that life is hard. Honestly, that might be one of the few things we all agree on. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably seen TikTok's floating across your feed with people living their best lives, the kind of aesthetic, whimsical moments that feel like they’re pulled straight from a movie.
Maybe you’ve thought, "That could never be me," or "This isn’t even real life." But what if I told you... it can be you, and it is real. Well, partly. Here are four little ways I’m choosing to add more softness, joy, and cinematic flair to the everyday:
Early mornings - Listen, I love sleep as much as the next person. But there’s something peaceful about waking up just a few minutes earlier to start the day with intention. Instead of being jolted awake by the alarm clock from Hades, why not try waking up to soft violins and birds chirping? Let it feel like you’re a princess gently stirring in a sunny meadow. Sounds dramatic because it is, and that’s the point.
Picking out an outfit - Make a whole moment of it! Turn on your favorite playlist, preferably something from a 2000s rom-com, and flip through your closet like you’re shopping in your own personal boutique. Let the music guide your vibe. You’re not just getting dressed, you’re setting the tone for the day.
Exercising - Now this one… this one takes work. But it doesn’t have to feel dreadful. For me, it starts with a cute outfit because science (or maybe just my mom) says looking good helps you feel good. Music is next. Use the same playlist from your outfit montage or find something that makes you feel powerful and joyful. If you prefer to work out outside, choose a spot with a beautiful view and let the scenery add to the magic.
Cooking - Light a candle. Put on that frilly apron you’ve been saving. Pull out your favorite fancy utensils. Cooking isn’t just about getting food on the table. It’s a chance to create something beautiful for yourself. Plate your meal like you’re on a cooking show, and don’t skip the garnish. Even a sprinkle of parsley can feel like luxury.
Romanticizing your life doesn’t mean pretending everything is perfect. It just means choosing to find joy in the little things and allowing yourself to be fully present in them. You deserve main character energy, even on the most ordinary of days. So light the candle, play the music, and turn your Tuesday into a love story. Starring you.
